Piston Rings And Timing

  1. Hi all I’m new here so hope this is posted in the correct place.

Basically during a service I had an issue with the spark plug not going in right so rather than risk it I’ve removed the engine ran a tap through to clean the thread. This has worked a treat but to be safe Iv taken the head off to check it’s clear of any swarf ect. When my new gasket set arrives il reassemble the engine.
This is my first experience removing and stripping an engine. Iv heard so
Many horror stories about people f***ing up the timing. Am I right in saying as long as the marker is Aliligned on the lower part of the engine and the cam sprocket is aligned with the marker on the top then I can pop the timing chain on and that should be right?
Has anyone got any experience with this?
